Upthegrove Statement on Court Ruling Halting Logging Over Climate Impacts
“I applaud the court for recognizing the need for an honest accounting of the carbon impacts of logging activities on public lands. At the end of the day, we need to end the destruction of our mature legacy forests. They make up a tiny part of our public forestlands but have an outsized impact on our climate.”

“Protecting mature legacy forests within King County is critical to reaching our climate goals as a county and as a state, but financial impacts remain a challenge to preservation. There is a huge demand from counties for funding from the Natural Climate Solutions program. The Legislature needs to continue to make robust funding for this program a priority.”
