SE Edgewick Road Slide Repair Project
Permanent repairs are anticipated to begin as soon as February 16, 2026

Status update
February 3, 2026
Neighbors are welcome to join the project team to learn more about construction and use of the Alternative Route at an online community meeting on February 10th at 1 pm. Please contact Amy B for the calendar invitation.
February 7th: Using the Snoqualmie Valley Trail, crews will install a temporary bridge over the existing private bridge at 44660 SE Edgewick Road. We expect the road at the bridge location to be closed to traffic on Saturday, February 7th from 8 am to 1 pm. There will be intermittent closures as crews work on the temporary bridge from 2/7 to 2/10, please expect delays.
February 16th: Crews plan to begin permanent repairs of SE Edgewick Road and the road will be closed at the slide location to all traffic including all vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians. We expect these repairs to take up to six weeks to complete. This schedule could be delayed due to weather, crew, or material availability.
Current Conditions
SE Edgewick Road is currently open to two-way traffic through a single open lane. Please remember that the road is very narrow (9.5 ft wide) and is load limited to 10 tons. We urge you to drive extremely slowly and cautiously on the road, especially in the dark. The Alternative Route via the Snoqualmie Valley Trail is closed to vehicles.
We have alerted Eastside Fire & Rescue and US Mail that the road is open with restrictions. Eastside Fire will be able to continue life safety evacuation using an ATV or brush truck and their response times will improve with the open road; however, their fire trucks cannot get through the narrow and load limited road. Please use extreme caution if you are using a wood stove or fire recreationally or to heat your home. Please keep this in mind if you are using portable space heaters that can be fire hazards. You are encouraged to reach out to service providers such as hay, septic, or propane and request deliveries prior to the closure for construction. Please make sure that they understand the current 10 ton restrictions on the road.
Project overview
Crews identified that water could damage SE Edgewick Road, and in 2009 perforated pipes were installed to drain water away from the downslope. We believe that over time, one of those pipes shifted and allowed water to seep under the road. The amount of water during the December 2025 storm was unprecedented and the drainage system could not keep up.
To repair the road, crews will cut into the hillside. This may include rock to reinforce the road and fix the slide. The team will also install drainage improvements to reduce the risk of future slides.
What to expect during construction
We anticipate two phases of construction to repair SE Edgewick Road:
Phase 1:
- Crews reinforced the ditch at the slide location and added additional drainage.
- This will allowed our team to open a narrow 9.5-foot wide one lane roadway with a 10-ton weight limit.
- The alternative route via the Snoqualmie Valley Trail has closed to vehicular traffic.
Phase 2: anticipated to begin on February 16th
- Once the soil is drier, crews will return for permanent repairs to the roadway. We expect construction on this phase to take three to four weeks.
- During these repairs, we will need to fully close SE Edgewick Road to all traffic and the Alternative Route via the Snoqualmie Valley Trail will be reinstated. A temporary bridge will be added over the existing private bridge allowing emergency services to enter the neighborhood.
- Crews will work during daylight hours and neighbors can expect the following during work:
- Noise and odor from saw cutting, jackhammers, excavators, generators and pumps.
- Increased truck traffic for hauling materials to and from the construction site.
Once phase 2 is complete, SE Edgewick Road will reopen to all two-way traffic without weight restrictions.
Alternative route
In partnership with the King County Parks Division, Road Services identified an alternative route for residents to use while SE Edgewick Road is closed due to slide activity. View larger (4MB)
Recent heavy rains and flooding resulted in damage to SE Edgewick Road, effectively cutting off vehicle access to homes of some local residents. Road Services in partnership with the Parks Division, is expediting repairs and providing alternative access for those affected homeowners.
A plan was developed to convert a portion of the Snoqualmie Valley Trail to a temporary access route between Cedar Falls Road SE and 44670 SE Edgewick Road. This portion of the trail will be temporarily closed to pedestrian and bicycle users to facilitate safer conditions for vehicle traffic.
However, please be aware that the Alternative Route is not a King County public road, is not constructed to King County public road standards, is not maintained or patrolled by King County, and does not have safety features often associated with county roads, such as guard rails, regular signage, lighting or shoulders. The Alternative Route is primitive in nature and is not suitable for use by all vehicles, particularly larger ones. The road surface is gravel and dirt with uneven surfaces, potholes or other deformities, and is at times very narrow with limited to no shoulder. In the event of an emergency or breakdown, it will potentially take a long time for responders to arrive. If you elect to use the Alternative Route, then in addition to driving with standard care and attention, the following safety practices are strongly encouraged:
- Limit use of trail to cars and light trucks
- No trailers are allowed
- No flammable materials are allowed
- Keep speed under 10 MPH
- Drive with headlights on at all times
- Be alert for other traffic on the trail, and be prepared to back up for long distances to accommodate passing oncoming vehicles.
- Do not stop on the trail
- Large animals are allowed on the trail
- Follow the signed detour route
- If you have an emergency, call 911
Because this Alternative Route was not originally designed for vehicles, any use of this trail may result in damage or deterioration of the trail to the point of it no longer being available for vehicle traffic. Please limit trips to a minimum, and to smaller, lighter vehicles so as to maximize the length of time this option is available for use to you and your neighbors.

Frequently asked questions
The Parks Division will place signs that indicate that delivery trucks and vans cannot use the road. We’ve been in contact with USPS to let them know of the closure. They should be holding your mail and packages, but it is always a good idea to talk with them directly.
Once the temporary bridge is placed, emergency responders will be able to access your community using the Snoqualmie Valley trail. Road Services is in regular communication with Eastside Fire & Rescue.

December 30, 2025: The private bridge at 44660 SE Edgewick Road now has a new, lower posted weight limit restriction of 5 tons.
December 18, 2025: The Snoqualmie Valley Trail is closed to pedestrians and bicyclists so that it can be used as an alternative route for the SE Edgewick Road community. The Parks Division placed signs to show that delivery vehicles are not allowed to use the trail. We need to limit use of this alternative route so that the trail is preserved as much as possible.
December 13, 2025: more water from the atmospheric river caused the hillside above SE Edgewick to slide. This slide is slightly uphill from the road damage.
On December 11, 2025, crews added compacted gravel to the road shoulder to create a narrow one lane on SE Edgewick Road with a 5-ton limit on vehicle weight. Shortly after, additional water forced this option to be closed.
On December 9, 2025, the ground underneath SE Edgewick Road slid during a rainstorm.
