- 2025 Drowning Data Summary: King County had 25 preventable drowning deaths. Most victims were adults, and over half of all drowning deaths occurred in open water such as rivers, lakes, ponds, or Puget Sound. Eight of the 25 deaths were boating‑related, highlighting the importance of sober boating and wearing U.S. Coast Guard–approved life jackets.
- 5-year summary: Between 2021 and 2025, King County saw 144 preventable drowning deaths, with consistently elevated numbers following the 2020 spike. Most unintentional drownings occurred in natural water such as lakes, rivers, and Puget Sound, though private pools, spas, hot tubs, and bathtubs also accounted for a substantial share.
