The 2024 report tells a story about how the Haz Waste Program centers the people we serve as coequal partners in every aspect of our work. As a coalition agency, we are collaborative by nature. We depend on the collaboration of government agencies, community organizations, and King County residents to achieve meaningful outcomes. Facilitating these connections is our greatest strength — and our best path towards ensuring the most impact and best value for our ratepayers.
From collection services and technical support to marketing campaigns and policy initiatives, the Haz Waste Program takes a multifaceted approach to advancing our mission. Here are some figures from the report to measure our progress in 2024:
- 4,006,000 pounds of hazardous products diverted from improper storage or disposal.
- 1,169,629 connections made through broad public outreach or digital marketing.
- 95,519 residents and 1,110 businesses used a collection service.
- 16,564 community members called our help line, participated in a workshop, attended an event, or received technical assistance.
Our Program lives at the intersection of complex problems meeting complex solutions. As we move into 2025, we will never shy away from a challenge, nor will we miss an opportunity to apply the lessons we’ve learned.
