How to Access Court Records

Many court records, including documents and audio recordings, can be accessed online via the KC Script Portal. Most public court records and court exhibits can be accessed in person. For some pre-1979 court records, there are limited microfiche available to search online. Click on the below icons to learn more about accessing court records.

If you want to request and view court records via our portal, you need to create an account. You may also visit one of our courthouse locations and request records in person. 

 


Yes, you will need to create a new account even if you had one through our previous system. All users must create an account in the new records request portal to view/download Superior Court records.          

 


Once you receive notification via email that your records request is complete, log into your portal account. From the main menu bar, select the My Account dropdown and click My Orders. Locate your request - you can search by date range or your Public Portal Request Number (PPR) Example: PPR21-000100. Click the blue hyperlink PPR number to view the Order Summary where you can view/download your available records.

Please Note: You have 14 calendars days from the time your request is completed view/download the record. For requests that are to be mailed, the Clerk’s Office will place your records in the mail on the business day they are completed in the portal.

 

No, we do not accept records requests or payments via phone or email. Records requests can be submitted through the portal or in-person.         

 


Resetting your account password is simple. Visit the login screen, click on the Request new password tab and follow the prompts.

Non-Certified Copy Fee $0.25 per page for online viewing/download (cases compliant with LGR 31)
Non-Certified Copy Fee $0.50 per page for Clerk-assisted copies
Certified Copies $5.00 for the first page & $1.00 per page thereafter
Exemplified Copies $9.00 for the first page & $1.00 per page thereafter
Research Fee $30.00 per hour & any portion thereof
Shipping and Handling Shipping and Handling

Writ Issuance $20.00 for the first 2 copies & $2.00 per copy thereafter

Customers can request a CD hearing by coming to our office in person or by sending a request in the mail. CD recordings are $25 per cause number ordered and up to 72 minutes. An additional $10 postage/handling fee is required for mail in requests or please provide a self-addressed stamped envelope.

To obtain access to sealed records, the Clerk must verify your identity. You may come in-person to one of our courthouse locations or you can visit us virtually to verify identification. To visit us virtually, please submit a records request through the portal, then you will receive further instructions on how to meet with a clerk virtually. Access to sealed and confidential records is only permitted to approved parties as mandated by the Court, statute and/or rule. 

 

The Clerk’s Office will complete your request within five business days from the date you submitted the order. 

 


Once your request is complete, you will receive notification through your email address associated with your portal account. If you selected a mail delivery, a letter will be sent to you in the mail to the address listed on your account.            

 


You can view the status of your request on the Order Summary screen. Log into your portal account, from the main menu bar, select the My Account dropdown and click My Orders. You can search by date range or your Public Portal Request Number (PPR) Example: PPR21-000100.

Customers can also request hearings to be received electronically. This request can be completed through the KC Script Portal.

Expedited requests will be fulfilled within one business day. 

 


Per Local General Rule 31 only certain documents are available through the KC Script Portal. Other records are delivered to the customer via a ShareFile Link which can also be accessed electronically by the customer.   


All completed records delivered via the portal and ShareFile will remain available to the customer for 14 days from completion date.

 


Customers can request a fee waiver right from the KC Script Portal. To request a fee waiver, you must do the following:
  1. Create an account.
  2. Search for your case.
  3. Under the Documents Tab, click on Fee Waiver Request.
  4. Complete the required documentation fields.
  5. Submit for approval.
If approved, you will have access to your records without cost for 12 months from the date of approval.

 

If your Clerk fee waiver was approved, you will have access to your case via our portal for 12 months. You will be able to view documents and request copies (including certified copies) free of charge. After 12 months, you may reapply for a new waiver. 

 

Once a voucher has been associated with your portal account all records requested will be paid by the voucher. Each month an invoice will be sent to the agency for payment of the prior month's voucher activity. Documents that are exempt based on statute or court rule will be able to be requested without a fee.

Some customers may receive documents free of charge based on a state statute that exempts them from paying for documents.

Once the records portal is launched, you are encouraged to use the remaining funds in your account within 14 days. After 14 days the remaining balance will be refunded back to the payor. If you would like to request a refund sooner, please contact our Accounting Team at 206-477-0812

 

As of November 12, 2024, E-Filing will be done in the KC Script Portal, and you can use your existing KC Script Portal account to E-File. To learn how to E-File in the KC Script Portal, click HERE.
