Online events

Into the Weeds Webinar Series

This two-part webinar series happens in May (dates vary). One day is offered in the morning (8am to 12pm) and the other in the afternoon (12pm to 4pm). Every year we apply for WSDA and ODA pesticide applicator credits (4-per-day or 8 total). This series is open to the public, but geared towards vegetation management personnel, restoration crews and anyone else interested in learning more about noxious weeds and issues related to noxious weed control.

Use Pesticidas con Seguridad (Spanish Pesticide Safety Webinar)

This online series is taught in Spanish. It usually happens in late fall and is co-hosted by our Program, WSDA, WA state noxious weed board, and WISC. Topics vary, but are always pest or pesticide related and qualify for 3 WSDA pesticide applicator credits.

Events taught in Spanish will be posted here: Próximos eventos

In-person events

Water Weeds 101: Hands-on Workshop for Identifying Aquatic Plants

This 1.5 hour in-person workshop usually happens in June, date and location varies but aims to be accessible by King County public transportation. With over 20 live samples and a comprehensive printed guide, participants will gain hands-on experience in identifying various types of water weeds and their native counterparts. By the end of the training, our hope is that participants will be confident in spotting new infestations of water weeds so we can work as a community to prevent them from spreading. Whether you're a nature enthusiast or just curious about aquatic plants, this event is perfect for all skill levels.

Volunteering

We are just one program of many within King County’s Department of Natural Resources.

While we don’t offer Program specific volunteer opportunities, we are thankful to be part of a greater community that does! Find hands-on volunteer opportunities here. Check program descriptions for events that can get you into the weeds.

Youth education

Our Program works with a group called Nature Vision to provide invasive plant education for schools in King County, Washington. This program called Right Plant, Right Place can be presented in the classroom, online, or virtually by Nature Vision naturalists to schools in the county. Schools are eligible to receive this program for free, while supplies last, through the sponsorship of the King County Noxious Weed Control Board.
