Metropolitan King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn presented a King County Metro Van to New Horizon School, which provides specialized education and training programs to students with learning disabilities.

New Horizon School focuses on creating a personalized learning environment for students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, disorders of executive function, and other learning differences. The school offers elementary, middle, and high school education, as well as a transition program for students who need additional skill development before moving onto independent adulthood.

“I’m glad to be able to support an organization where students, regardless of needs, abilities or differences, can reach their full potential,” Dunn said. “This van will allow these students to access additional learning opportunities at New Horizon School.”

New Horizon’s Administrator and CEO Marla Veliz thanked Dunn for the donation.

“We are so appreciative of King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn for the donation of this van and Tony Ventrella for his support during the process,” Veliz said. “This van will provide us with more opportunities to take our students to off-campus activities, so that they can use the broader community as their classroom. Through these experiences, they can learn, mature, have fun, feel safe, lead, and grow into the unique and talented young people they were meant to be.”

The retired van program provides county vehicles that have reached the end of their service life to local governments and community programs to provide transportation assistance for low-income, elderly or young people or people with disabilities. These donated vans provide mobility for a diverse array of King County residents, support the positive work of various local organizations, and relieve traffic congestion by reducing the need for single-occupancy vehicles.
