Story

The Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-WA) and King County Council Chair Rod Dembowski are releasing the following statements and information regarding the tragic shooting in New Zealand.

CAIR-WA is working with law enforcement, mosques leaders, and elected officials to ensure that places of worship are secure today. The group is continuing to monitor this situation and will keep the community updated.

"We grieve with our brothers and sisters in New Zealand tonight. This type of violent hate is unacceptable anywhere and particularly horrifying in a house of worship. No one should ever feel afraid while practicing their faith." – Council on American-Islamic Relations.

“King County extends to our Muslim friends and neighbors condolences for the victims and families of the terrorist attacks at mosques in New Zealand. We will continue to steadfastly support and foster a community that respects all people of all faiths and we will fight back against anyone and any group that works to undermine our commitment to a peaceful and loving community that respects, honors, and celebrates the promise of religious and political freedoms on which our country was founded.” – County Council Chair Rod Dembowski

CAIR-WA is encouraging the community to remain vigilant and to contact law enforcement immediately if they encounter anything suspicious.
