King County Metro General Manager Rob Gannon provided an update on the progress the agency has made on their “Metro Connect” goals since his last visit to South King County community leaders at Metropolitan King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer’s March “Good Eggs” breakfast at the Phoenix Rising Café in Auburn.

Gannon discussed the needs Metro Connect identified, including increasing capacity from 400 million annual hours of service to 600 million annual hours of service, and 500,000 daily riders to 1,000,000 daily riders as our region continues to grow. In addition, the agency will need 600 more busses, and is working to build more physical capacity to provide more service.

General Manager Gannon also discussed where Metro is headed as it begins to work on building a new bus shelter in South King County with the hope it will become a part of the fabric of the community, bring new jobs to South King County and illustrate how a public agency can be part of a community.
