Story
The King County Conservation Futures Citizen Oversight Committee is a volunteer citizen advisory board serving King County government. King County is currently seeking individuals who are interested in the acquisition and protection of open space lands to serve on the Committee.King County Conservation Futures tax levy (CFT) funds are used to purchase or preserve open space lands, including natural areas, passive-use parks, urban green spaces, wildlife habitat, trails, farms and forests in unincorporated King County and its cities. The Committee reviews applications for CFT funds, and recommends the allocation of CFT funds to the King County Executive and Council which makes the final funding awards.
“CFT funds have helped to protect and preserve many of the environmental jewels in King County since the early 1970s,” said King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer. “By serving on this Committee, our citizens have the opportunity to continue this work and to help King County maintain its position as a leader in environmental preservation.”
Individuals residing in King County District 7 with a knowledge of, experience with, or interest in open space protection are invited to apply. Committee terms are typically four years and members may serve two terms. Committee membership requires attending six or more mid-week evening committee meetings on Mercer Island between January and May; attending three to six field trips on mid-week afternoons or Saturdays to applicant sites in April; and actively participating in and contributing to the efforts of the Committee. The schedule is subject to change depending on the Committee’s workload.
