Funds set aside to design improvements to SE May Valley Road/Issaquah-Hobart Road intersection

Summary

The design would look at increasing flow and efficiency of the intersection. Changes would also help reduce collisions at this intersection.

Story

The Metropolitan King County Council unanimously adopted an amendment proposed by Councilmember Reagan Dunn adding funds to the King County Budget that will go toward safety improvements to the SE May Valley Road intersection along Issaquah-Hobart Road.

“One of my top priorities is to secure improvements to the Issaquah-Hobart Road Corridor despite our limited resources,” Dunn said. “These update are badly needed in order to make this intersection safer and more efficient.”

Dunn announced that $255,000 would be included for preliminary design of the May Valley and Issaquah Hobart Intersection improvements. The design would look at increasing flow and efficiency of the intersection. Changes would also help reduce collisions at this intersection.

In 2017, Dunn advocated for the County to fund a joint study with the City of Issaquah to find solutions to the traffic congestion in the Issaquah-Hobart Road Corridor, from Issaquah-Hobart Road SE/Front Street between State Route 18 and Gilman Boulevard.

The study showed that one of the highest collisions areas in the King County portion of Issaquah-Hobart Road was around the May Valley Road intersection.
