Diverse Community Leaders to Review King County Charter
Summary
The Council approves 23-members to serve on the Charter Review Commission.
Story
The King County Council has approved 23 community leaders to serve on a commission tasked with reviewing and providing potential amendments to the county’s “constitution.”
“This is an important body of work to make sure King County can continue to effectively respond to the increasingly complex challenges facing our region,” said Councilmember Rod Dembowski, chair of the Council’s Committee of the Whole. “I am thankful these accomplished community leaders are willing to serve our county on this vital commission.”
The 23-member Charter Review Commission includes former King County Executive Ron Sims, former County Councilmember Louise Miller, attorney and civic leader Kinnon Williams, State Senator Joe Fain, Kirkland Councilmember Toby Nixon, and attorney and community leader Nikkita Oliver. It has members from each of the county’s nine council districts.
After reviewing the charter and holding public meetings, the commission will present the council with a written report recommending amendments, if any, which should be made to the charter. The council can then submit those recommendations to amend the charter to the voters for approval.
