On Sunday, December 2 Metropolitan King County Council Vice Chair Claudia Balducci presented Music Works Northwest a $45,200 check to complete important facility upgrades to better serve the 700 students annually who participate in music instruction, classes, music therapy as well as summer camps. Music Works Northwest is a nonprofit community music school, dedicated to changing lives through accessible music education and experiences. Each year Music Works provides individual music lessons, music classes, music therapy, summer camps and free concerts to thousands of King County residents.
“Music Works Northwest is dedicated to increasing access to life-changing music education and music therapy for all ages, abilities and economic levels,” said Karen Nestvold, Music Works Northwest Executive Director. “This Building for Culture grant will help us improve the quality of the educational experience for hundreds of students each week, through additional soundproofing, replacement of failed light fixtures and necessary building maintenance. Many thanks to Councilmember Claudia Balducci, the entire King County Council and 4Culture for this grant.”
Building for Culture is a partnership between King County and 4Culture, King County’s cultural services agency, using bonds backed by the hotel-motel tax to build, maintain, expand, preserve, and improve new and existing cultural facilities.
