Enumclaw parks, youth, and seniors to benefit from Adopted County Budget

Summary

Dunn announces $60,000 for area programs

Story

Metropolitan King County Council Vice Chair Reagan Dunn announced that today’s adopted 2017-2018 King County Budget includes $60,000 in funding for Enumclaw area parks, youth, and seniors in addition to continued support for the King County Sheriff’s Office Air Support and Marine Rescue units.

“One of my top budget priorities was to continue supporting the Sheriff’s Office which serves as the first responders for more than 70,000 residents living in outside of cities in District 9,” said Dunn. “I felt that maintaining funding for the Air Support and Marine Rescue Units was critical despite the tough decisions we as a council faced throughout this process. I’m also grateful to have had the opportunity to advocate for funds that will support good causes throughout southeast King County.”

When budget constraints threatened the Sheriff’s Office Air and Marine Rescue Units, the first responders for emergencies on area lakes and rivers, and wilderness Search and Rescue, Councilmember Dunn and his colleagues on the King County Council worked to find a solution. Thanks to the Council, the 2017-2018 Budget will maintain the King County Sheriff’s Air and Marine Rescue Units.

“The Air Support and Marine Units save lives, plain and simple,” said Sheriff John Urquhart. “I am very relieved and pleased the Council fought to fully fund these units. Their work is far too important.”

The City of Enumclaw will receive $45,000 for improvements to the Rainier Trails Park and Play Structure and Enumclaw Parks and Recreation programs.

“On behalf of the City of Enumclaw I’d like to thank the King County Council and Councilmember Reagan Dunn for supporting our local senior center, sports teams, historical society, and parks,” said Enumclaw Mayor Liz Reynolds. “These funds will help support our local organizations that work to benefit all residents within Enumclaw city limits and the greater Enumclaw plateau, together which form our Enumclaw community.”

Enumclaw area sports teams, youth activities, and senior programming also got a boost from the adopted budget. King County 4-H Horse, and Enumclaw Senior Center both received funding to promote and support active lifestyles for seniors and youth.

“Thank you King County Council and Reagan Dunn for these funds which will support our South King County 4-H Horse clubs benefitting the youth in our area” said Kevin Wright, King County Director of 4-H Horse Clubs.
