King County Council Recognizes Back-to-Back State Champions Federal Way High School Boys Basketball Team and Coach Collins

The Federal Way High School Boys Basketball coaches and team were recognized at today’s Metropolitan King County Council meeting for their back-to-back State Championships. Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer presented the recognition to coaches and players for their successful, undefeated season and winning the 2016 WIAA 4A Boys State Championship.
“Coach Jerome Collins exemplifies a philosophy of developing players into scholar-athletes who work hard not only on the hardcourt, but also on their homework,” said von Reichbauer. “He inspires his teams to function as a unit and empowers them to lead successful lives long after they have played the game.”
Coach Jerome Collins led his team to a 66-54 victory over the Kentwood Conquerors at the Tacoma Dome on March 5. Coach Collins was joined by assistant coaches Kenyattah Reed, Quinn Gillis, Doug Sloane, Jemini Davis and members of the championship team: Malcolm Cola, Etan Collins, Ferran Flavors, Mykael Henry, Palofino Jatta, Christian Jones, D’Jjimon Jones, Jaden McDaniels, Jalen McDaniels, Elijah Nnananbu, Marcus Stephens, and Jalen Womack.
In his 32-year career, Coach Collins has coached his teams to 521 victories and has won three state titles in 2009, 2015, and 2016.

RECOGNITION |
WHEREAS, the Federal Way High School Eagles Boys Basketball Team won the WIAA 4A Boys State Championship for the second year in a row on March 5, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Coach Jerome Collins and Assistant Coaches Kenyattah Reed, Quinn Gillis, Doug Sloane, and Jemini Davis led the team to the championship at the Tacoma Dome with a resounding 66-54 victory over the Kentwood Conquerors; and
WHEREAS, the championship team members are Malcolm Cola, Etan Collins, Ferron Flavors, Mykael Henry, Palofino Jatta, Christian Jones, D’Jimon Jones, Jaden McDaniels, Jalen McDaniels, Elijah Nnananbu, Marcus Stephens, and Jalen Womack; and
WHEREAS, the championship coach is Jerome Collins, who has won three state titles in 2009, 2015, and 2016 and has coached his teams to 521 victories during his 32-year career; and
WHEREAS, this back-to-back championship caps an undefeated season, resulting in a 29-0 record; and
WHEREAS, Coach Collins exemplifies a philosophy of developing players into scholar-athletes who work hard, not only on the court, but also in the classroom; and
WHEREAS, Coach Collins inspires his teams to function as a unit and empowers them to lead successful lives long after they have played the game; and
WHEREAS, by taking their best shot every night, keeping their focus, and working hard, the team and Coach Collins were able to reach all of their goals for the 2015-2016 season;
NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Metropolitan King County Council, recognize and congratulate
