County Council Unanimously Agrees to Sell Auburn Health Clinic Property to City of Auburn for Auburn Arts Center

The Metropolitan King County Council today unanimously passed legislation introduced by Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer to sell the Auburn Health Clinic property to the City of Auburn for the creation of an arts center in downtown Auburn.
The decision on the property, located in downtown Auburn at 100 Auburn Avenue NE, was reached after months of dialogue between the city and county.
“I am pleased to help the City of Auburn use this surplus County property to support the arts,” said von Reichbauer. “I want to thank 4Culture for the grant to make this vision a reality, and my colleagues on the King County Council for their unanimous support.”
The county and city agreed to a purchase price of $350,000 for the property. The building has been vacant since October 2008 when Public Health moved to a larger site to continue to serve the greater Auburn community.
The City of Auburn intends to use the property as an arts center and has secured a contract with 4Culture, the cultural services agency for King County, as part of the Building for Culture bond program. 4Culture will reimburse the city for the cost of property acquisition and related capital expenditure associated with the creation of the Auburn Arts Center. The purchase of the property is supported by a $200,000 grant from 4Culture, the funding for which was passed by the County Council as part of the Building for Culture Program.
King County and 4Culture partnered last year to create Building for Culture, a $20 million program to help create and renovate diverse rural arts and heritage facilities throughout King County.
