Metropolitan King County Councilmember Joe McDermott released this statement on today’s announcement by Council Chair Larry Phillips that he will not seek reelection:

“It has been a privilege to serve alongside Council Chair Larry Phillips.

“Public service is a challenging and rewarding endeavor and we are quite fortunate that Larry Phillips has devoted the majority of his life to this cause. I cannot overstate his commitment to our County, our state and our communities during his tenure in public service. He is a leader in growth management, transit, and environmental stewardship.

“In my tenure as Budget Chair and as a member of the King County Council, Chair Phillips has been a mentor, a friend, and a valued colleague.

“His service will be missed and I wish him all the best in what I doubt will be a restful retirement!”
