Von Reichbauer on Weyerhaeuser moving to Seattle: South King County will “make lemonade out of lemons”
Summary
Story
Metropolitan King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer has released this statement on today’s announcement that Weyerhaeuser is moving its corporate headquarters from Federal Way to Seattle:“I have been in touch with United States Congressman Adam Smith and Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell, and we are going to meet in the next seven days to discuss how the federal, county and city governments can work together to make lemonade out of lemons.
“We want to learn from the lessons of Russell's departure from Tacoma to Seattle and work together to insure that this site continues to create jobs and economic development for our region
“As one who grew up in Pierce County and who has represented North Pierce and South King County in the Legislature, I am saddened by the devolution of regional commitment by the Weyerhaeuser Corporation in the last few years.
“However, I will forever be grateful to George Weyerhaeuser for his siting the corporate headquarters of his company in South King County and his commitment to improving the quality of life for his employees and their neighbors in our region.”
