Construction will begin soon on park renovations funded by State, County and private dollars

Renovations to the sports fields at Redmond Ridge Park will break ground this fall thanks to a collaborative effort involving the state of Washington, King County and Redmond North Little League.

In June, the League’s “Renovate the Ridge” project reached its fundraising goal to replace the park’s dirt and sand fields with all-weather synthetic turf surfaces. In addition to private donations, the project received funding from the County’s Community Partnership and Grants (CPG) program and a Youth Recreation Grant from the state Recreation and Conservation Funding Board.

“These sports field renovations have been anticipated and needed for a long time,” said Metropolitan King County Councilmember Kathy Lambert. “It’s good to know that they are on-track for next year’s baseball and soccer seasons. The addition of synthetic playing surfaces means these parks can accommodate many more kids’ sports teams.”

“Excellent work was done by Redmond North Little League under the leadership of JD Klein,” continued Lambert. “It’s a true example of community spirit that benefits everyone. I look forward to seeing great things from Redmond North Little League as everyone continues to work together.”

Located at 22915 N.E. Alder Crest Dr., Redmond Ridge Park is the only park of its kind in the area. “This is the culmination of nearly 10 years of planning and fundraising,” Klein said. “These all-weather fields will cost less to maintain than the existing fields and will support a wide range of recreational activities in the area all year round. Ultimately, the park will be an even greater asset to the Redmond Ridge community.”

“State Senator Andy Hill had a major role in securing the needed state money for this project,” said Lambert. “Without his assistance, it would not have been completed. His dedication to Redmond Ridge Park, to make sure the kids of the Redmond area have enough sports fields, is commendable.”

Redmond North Little League serves the area of King County east of Redmond by providing the opportunity for boys and girls from the ages of 5 to 18 to learn the game of baseball in a safe and supportive environment.
