Community meetings set on major update to King County land use policies
Summary
Council committee to hold three evening hearings on Comprehensive Plan Update
Story
The public is invited to testify at three community public meetings on a major update of the King County Comprehensive Plan, the set of policies by which King County manages growth in unincorporated King County.
“Hearing how the comp plan proposal affects the people of King County is critical to helping council members make decisions,” said Councilmember Larry Phillips, chair of the Council’s Transportation, Economy and Environment Committee (TrEE). “I look forward to receiving the input of county residents either at the public meetings, or through emails, letters, and phone calls.”
The meetings start on March 22. Each hearing begins with an open house at 6:00 p.m., with the public meeting scheduled to start at 6:30p.m.

Public testimony will also be taken at regularly scheduled meetings of the Council's Transportation, Economy and Environment Committee throughout the spring and summer of 2012. The King County Executive transmitted his proposed 2012 Comprehensive Plan Update to the County Council on February 29. The TrEE Committee is scheduled to complete its recommendation by July 25. Hearings before the full King County Council are scheduled for September 10, with final adoption of the 2012 Comprehensive Plan Update expected by September 17, 2012.
The King County Comprehensive Plan guides growth and development in the unincorporated areas of King County and sets county policy on major issues such as annexations, transportation, and the environment. The Comprehensive Plan was adopted under the State Growth Management Act in 1994. Technical changes to this plan can be made once a year, with major plan updates conducted every four years. The first major review occurred in 2000, followed by reviews in 2004 and 2008.
