Council confirms Claudia Balducci as Director of King County’s Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention

The Metropolitan King County Council today unanimously confirmed the appointment of Claudia Balducci as Director of King County’s Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DADJ). Balducci, who is also a member of the Bellevue City Council, brings over ten years experience in King County government to the position.“This is a critical time for the DAJD,” Council Vice Chair Jane Hague, who applauded Balducci’s appointment. “We need a director that has the intelligence, experience, and vision necessary to move the department forward during this troubling period. Claudia Balducci fits that bill.”
As director of DADJ, Balducci will manage overall operation, planning and budgeting for the County’s correctional system. County facilities average daily population of about 2,300 inmates. It is the second-largest facility housing the mentally ill in the state. She will oversee more than 1,000 employees, two adult detention facilities, a Community Corrections Division, a Juvenile Division and an Administrative Division.
Balducci, a graduate of Columbia University School of Law, previously served as Operations Manager at DAJD.
