Phillips: “Safety on our transit system is paramount”

Summary

Phillips: “Safety on our transit system is paramount”

Story

Metropolitan King County Councilmember Larry Phillips, chair of the Council’s Environment and Transportation Committee, released this statement on the January 28 assault in the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel:

“Safety for transit passengers and drivers is a paramount priority for me, and I am deeply concerned about the incident that occurred in the transit tunnel where a teenager was beaten within view of security guards. While the security guards were following their training and protocols, it is time to re-evaluate those protocols to see what more we can do to protect the safety of those on Metro buses and at bus stops. As Chair of the Environment and Transportation Committee, I look forward to seeing a thorough review of Metro’s safety policies and supporting changes to make our system better.”
