Hague to lead in policy and administration for King County Council for 2009

Summary

Will chair new Council committee, continue as Budget Vice Chair

Story

Metropolitan King County Councilmember Jane Hague was appointed the Council’s Vice Chair for Administration and Finance as part of the Council’s 2009 reorganization adopted on January 12. Hague will join Council Chair Dow Constantine and Bob Ferguson, Vice Chair of Policy, as part of the Council’s management team that sets agendas and coordinates the referral and scheduling of all legislation that comes before the Council.

“The demands of the Council’s 2009 agenda are enormous, and our response to those demands will affect my constituents in District 6 as well as all of the citizens of King County,” said Hague. “I look forward to the challenge.”

Hague will continue her long-term leadership of the Council’s Budget and Fiscal Management Committee, where she has played a pivotal role since joining the Council in 1994. As the committee’s Vice Chair she will, for the eighth year, also be part of the four-member Budget Leadership Team that works to set priorities, identify potential savings and close the budget with unanimous support from colleagues.

Hague was also named Chair of the Council’s new Physical Environment Committee, which will be responsible for all of the transportation, salmon recovery, water quality, growth management, comprehensive planning, annexation and affordable housing issues that come before the Council. Issues affecting rural and unincorporated areas will also come before the committee.

Hague will also serve on the Regional Transit Committee, continuing her commitment to the transportation issues of her Eastside constituencies, and will remain Chair of the Employment and Administration Committee.
