Search and rescue (SAR) Operations

The King County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for search and rescue activities in King County under the mandates of RCW 38.52.

The King County Search and Rescue (SAR) program is a vital public safety service dedicated to locating and assisting individuals who are lost, injured, or in distress in wilderness, urban, and disaster environments. Operating year-round and often in challenging conditions, SAR teams are composed of highly trained volunteers and professionals who work in coordination with the King County Sheriff's Office.

Our Air Support / Search & Rescue Team is world-class

Their mission is to save lives. The Sheriff's Office Air Support Unit has completed close to 700 air rescues.  The people rescued never receive a bill for this service.
