City of Woodinville Police Department
The City of Woodinville has partnered with the Sheriff's Office for its police services since 1993. Woodinville is located in the Sammamish Valley, a community with a rural character but with the amenities of urban living.
Woodinville is a community with a unique blend of residences, businesses and services. With more than 100 wineries, breweries, and distilleries, it is also a popular tourist destination. Therefore, despite having an official resident population of roughly 11,000, the police department must also support an estimated 700,000 annual visitors who come to enjoy the city’s amenities.
To serve the community, the Woodinville Police Department provides ongoing proactive policing and patrol, radar and traffic control, business checks, community crime prevention education, and other services to support local residents and visitors.
"Contracting for police services with the King County Sheriff’s Office has really been a benefit for the City of Woodinville. The city receives services ranging from bomb disposal to canine tracking at a fraction of the total cost. The economies of scale provided by contracting allows the city to maintain staffing levels at a reasonable cost. Since the city’s incorporation in 1993, contracting has delivered a cost-effective public safety solution.
In addition to the cost benefits derived from contracting, are the intangible benefits. The deputies and police chiefs selected to work in the city seem to really care about the community, which provides for a good relationship between citizens and deputies. In my seven years with the City of Woodinville, I have seen a number of deputies rotate through the city as they move forward in their careers. The deputies consistently impress me with their drive and professionalism to deliver public safety services to the citizens of Woodinville."
