About School Environmental Health and Safety
We envision a King County where K-12 schools, preschools, and childcares are built, maintained, and operated to be healthy, safe, and climate resilient for all students – regardless of race, place, or income.
School plan review
Learn how to submit your school construction project plans for review and approval (design phase) and request a pre-occupancy inspection (construction phase). All K-12 schools (public and private) need our approval before building a new school facility or making any major addition or alteration to an existing facility (including classroom portables and playgrounds).
Private school certification inspections
Learn how to request and obtain a health and safety inspection of your school building facility (including playgrounds), as part of the Washington State Board of Education’s approval process for private schools (includes independent, parochial and Non-Public Agency schools).
Playground safety
Playgrounds are important for children’s growth and development, but they also are places that children commonly get hurt. To keep children safe from these preventable injuries, schools need to take proper precautions.
