Overview

A capital project is large-scale project such as replacing old bridges, rebuilding existing roads, or major work to maintain facilities and other infrastructure. The project can take several years to complete and may include:

  • Planning the project – Deciding how the site will be used and developing a plan.

  • Buying land or buildings – Purchasing property located within or close to the project site area.

  • Designing and environmental review – Creating project designs and making sure they meet environmental standards.

  • Implementing the project – Moving forward with construction.

Capital projects can also include buying important equipment or investing in major technology upgrades and new systems.
