METROPOLITAN KING COUNTY COUNCIL

NOTICE OF ADOPTION

Ordinance 19965

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Metropolitan King County Council (the Council) held a public hearing on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, beginning at 1:30 PM to consider adoption of Proposed Ordinance 2025-0127 (Ordinance 19965), an ordinance modifying the County's school impact fee formula to account for varying dwelling unit size, to reflect updates to state law. The Council adopted this Ordinance at the Tuesday, August 25, 2025, meeting.

SUMMARY:

The Ordinance modifies the County's formula for calculating school impact fees, by establishing six categories, to account for dwelling unit size.  It adopts a maximum impact fee for middle housing and apartment units, changes the cycle for adoption of school impact fees to every two years, and removes County discretion in approving exemptions for affordable housing units.  The new formula will be in effect for the 2027 school impact fees.
