Project Safety
Project Safety is an innovative, collaborative approach to address the civil legal needs of crime victims in King County, Washington, with a priority on historically marginalized communities.
Our goal
To provide crime victims with legal assistance to resolve civil legal issues that arise as a result of victimization. With this legal assistance, which ranges from brief legal advice to full representation in court, we hope to help victims stabilize their lives and prevent further victimization.
Our mission
Project Safety is an innovative, collaborative approach to address the civil legal needs of crime victims in King County, Washington. The Project prioritizes historically marginalized communities, including people of color, survivors of gender-based violence, low income households, LGBTQ, and immigrants. Project Safety provides critical and time-sensitive legal assistance, empowers survivors, and prevents further victimization to help achieve stability.

How it works
The Sexual Violence Law Center has a navigator at the following locations:
- The King County Courthouse in downtown Seattle
- The Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent
Clients are referred to the navigators by advocates from the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. These advocates include criminal and protection order advocates.
The navigator meets with a client to learn about their needs. The assessment is confidential. The navigator will then connect the client with agencies in the Project Safety partnership.
Project Safety is an award-winning collaboration between civil legal aid and the King County Prosecuting Attorney funded by the federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA). Funding is made available by the Washington State Department of Commerce’s Office of Crime Victims Advocacy and Washington State Office of Civil Legal Aid.
