Help King County plan the future of the Greater Maple Valley/Cedar River area

September 5, 2024

SUMMARY

King County Local Services is starting work on a 20-year plan for the Greater Maple Valley/Cedar River area and seeks community input. Members of the public have several ways to share their ideas, including attending an open house event Sept. 26 in Hobart.

STORY

King County is working to help guide the future of the Greater Maple Valley/Cedar River area and is looking to members of the community for help.

The county is creating a subarea plan to help guide development and investments for the next 20 years in this area. Planners will develop a vision and include policies to help the community and King County government achieve that vision. The goal is to make real, equitable improvements in quality of life for everyone who lives, works, and plays in this area.

The plan will cover the rural area that lies east of Renton and Kent and north of Covington, Maple Valley, and Black Diamond. It extends east to the border with Kittitas County. It features low, rolling hills and several lakes in the west, while the eastern part is in the Cascade Range—including parts of the Forest Production District and part of the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest.

Plan topics:

  • Land use and zoning
  • Housing and human services
  • Environment
  • Parks, open space, and cultural resources
  • Transportation
  • Services and utilities
  • Economic development

Over the past nine months, county planners have been collecting information about the area. Now they want to hear from community members.
