Washington State Council of County and City Employees ratifies agreement with King County to forgo cost-of-living increases in 2011

Summary

King County Executive Dow Constantine today thanked members of the Washington State Council of County and City Employees for their ratification of an agreement to forego a cost-of-living increase for 2011.

Story

King County Executive Dow Constantine today thanked members of the Washington State Council of County and City Employees for their ratification of an agreement to forego a cost-of-living increase for 2011.

Council 2 president Chris Dugovich said 69 percent of the ballots returned were voted in favor of the tentative agreement.

“Saving services for the public and preserving jobs must come first in an economy like this,” said Dugovich. “I am pleased to see that a majority of our members agree.”

“The members of Council 2 are taking the lead to step up to our fiscal realities,” said Executive Constantine. “Their commitment will help us maintain services to the public and I deeply appreciate their spirit of partnership.”

The nine bargaining units that voted as a group collectively represent nearly 500 County employees who provide a wide range of services to the public – from District Court clerks and juvenile court detention supervisors and probation counselors, to building custodians and hazardous waste workers.

The tentative agreement was announced on August 16. The new agreement becomes effective on January 1, 2011.
