200-Day Plan

King County Executive Shannon Braddock's initial 200 days will focus on delivering for the people of King County while preparing a responsible budget that helps address federal threats to essential services. As an established leader, she is ready to guide the county forward and steward the transition to our next executive.

Focusing on who we serve

  • Regional Readiness, Responsible Budgeting, and Resisting Federal Rollbacks

    Pass a Responsible, Values-Driven Budget

My top priority is building a balanced budget that protects core services and ensures safe, vibrant, and healthy communities so everyone can thrive.

    • Secure new revenue to protect key priorities
    • Deliver one-time and ongoing efficiencies
    • Reinvest in proven programs that directly serve those who need it most

Resist Harmful Federal Funding Rollbacks and Unlawful Actions

It is critical we proactively defend essential programs in the face of possible federal defunding and provide regional leadership and coordination to help minimize impacts in King County.

    • Continue to resist unlawful federal actions through the courts
    • Lead government-to-government coordination to better understand local impacts
    • Stand up for workers and immigrant and refugee communities

Ensure Emergency Readiness for Uncertain Times

We must prepare King County for disruptions in federal aid and disaster funding (e.g., FEMA), with new contingency planning as a priority.

    • Establish an Emergency Preparedness Fund that bolsters reserves
    • Backfill Regional Disaster Plan funding
    • Ensure wildfire response and extreme heat readiness
  • Prioritize Children, Working Families, and Vulnerable Populations

Champion the Parks and EMS Levies

If approved by voters, ensure the successful implementation of two levies that help support working families, communities, and public safety across King County.

    • King County Parks, Recreation, Trails and Open Space Levy
    • Medic One/EMS Levy

    Transmit a MIDD Renewal

King County's Behavioral Health Sales Tax Renewal helps ensure critical services for both kids and adults throughout King County. I am moving forward with a plan to transmit the next iteration of the behavioral health sales tax.

Improve Transportation Options for Mobility-Challenged and Rural Residents

Working with Metro, I will explore expanded van service options as a new pilot project for rural areas, high-density elderly populations, people with disabilities, and low-income residents to ensure access to critical social services that require in-person visits.

Bring Forward a Renewed Focus on Care for Youth Justice

Expanding community-rooted alternatives that center healing, accountability, and long- term safety for youth will be my focus. This work will establish a care-first framework that centers families, aligns with public safety goals, and ensures strong oversight.

  • Embrace Best-Run Government Principles Focused on Who We Serve

    Convene a Public Safety Roundtable

I plan to bring together members of the council and department leaders from law enforcement, public health, and our justice system to better align on smart, equitable safety strategies that can be recommended as part of the 2026-27 budget.

Host a Regional Utilities Affordability Summit

In partnership with local municipal leaders, I will prepare a multi-jurisdictional summit to address affordability and access to essential utilities (water, sewer, energy).

    Advance King County AI Policy

I will launch the development of a new artificial intelligence policy that supports privacy, prevents bias, protects workers, and promotes responsible innovation across county departments.

  • Transition to New Leadership and Set the Stage for the Future

    Facilitate Institutional Knowledge Transfer

With the upcoming election, King County residents will soon select their next Executive - marking the first change in county leadership in nearly two decades. To help facilitate a smooth transition, my office will develop and organize briefing materials, transition memos, and programs to support continuity for incoming leadership.

    Bolster Operational Stability

To help ensure strong internal management across departments, I will work to ensure we have empowered leadership teams and clear decision pathways to help the county navigate the transition period and will work to support a healthy and engaged workforce.

    Center Our Long-Term Vision

I will embed established long-term strategies that ensure we continue working toward our True North to make King County a welcoming community where every person can thrive. This includes centering our values - like ensuring accountability, supporting historically marginalized and oppressed communities, and implementing laws that ensure all people here are honored, respected, and treated with dignity - in our current work to ensure lasting impact.

    Uphold the Public Trust

My office will model good governance and collaboration with a renewed focus on who we serve throughout the transition process, reinforcing public confidence in the county's ability to serve regardless of political change.
