Puget Sound Climate Preparedness Collaborative

Learn more about this network of 30+ local governments, Tribes, and organizations working to build resilience to the impacts of climate change.

About the Collaborative

The Puget Sound Climate Preparedness Collaborative (Collaborative) is a network of more than 30 local and county governments, Tribes, regional agencies, and other organizations in the Puget Sound basin working together to build community, economic, and environmental resilience to the impacts of climate change. The Collaborative seeks to leverage limited resources, reduce duplication of efforts, facilitate institutional learning, and amplify organizational preparedness priorities, needs, and ideas with other stakeholders, including state and federal agencies.

The Collaborative hosts a monthly climate preparedness call focused on an adaptation topic relevant to Collaborative communities. The Collaborative also supports peer learning and capacity building through connecting and convening subject matter experts and partners working on climate preparedness. King County is the organizational host for the Collaborative and co-chairs the Collaborative with the Point No Point Treaty Council.

Climate Resilience Regional Challenge Grant

In 2024, the Collaborative was awarded a Climate Resilience Regional Challenge (CRRC) grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This 3-year grant will support the following objectives:

  • Promote shared learning and accelerate climate preparedness through increased engagement activities and creation of technical resources.
  • Support climate preparedness work in smaller and less-resourced jurisdictions and Tribes via creation of a Small Communities Cohort Program.
  • Increase regional understanding of climate change impacts on Tribes and Tribal treaty rights through creation of a Tribal Partnerships Learning Series.
  • Support local efforts to incorporate equity and social justice in climate preparedness work through development of a Climate Equity Learning Series.
  • Inform and support stronger regional alignment in climate preparedness goals and outcomes in the Puget Sound basin.

Community Needs Surveys

The Collaborative is conducting short Community Needs Surveys to better understand if and how local governments, Tribes, and organizations across the Puget Sound basin are preparing for the impacts of climate change and what support is needed to help with that work. If you work in emergency management, planning, infrastructure, public health, natural resources, sustainability, or related areas, we want to hear from you. These surveys are not just for those who are currently working on climate change —input from organizations at all levels of climate awareness are needed! It will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Small Communities Cohort Program

Coming in Summer 2025!

The Collaborative is launching a Small Communities Cohort Program in summer 2025 to support climate preparedness in smaller and less resourced jurisdictions and Tribes. The program, currently in development, is designed to provide staffing and consulting support for local and Tribal climate preparedness projects that need assistance. The program will include nine to 12 smaller and less-resourced jurisdictions and Tribes. We anticipate opening the program for project applications in June 2025. To learn more about this program, please contact pscpc@kingcounty.gov.

How to Get Involved

Participation in the Collaborative is open to local, county, and Tribal governments and regional public agencies in the Puget Sound region with an interest in climate preparedness. Please reach out to pscpc@kingcounty.gov to learn more or to inquire about joining.
