Regional preservation

Learn about our Regional Preservation Program, one of the largest and most unique in the Pacific Northwest.

King County's regional landmark protection program was established in 1995. Cities that want to take part in our regional program must:

  • Adopt certain sections of the county landmark ordinance by reference
  • Appoint a city representative to the Landmarks Commission
  • Provide for design review of any changes proposed to landmark properties

Our program also provides additional services, such as:

  • Preparing nominations
  • Conducting historic resource surveys
  • Providing assistance with preservation planning and environmental review
