Man passes away while in custody at the King County Correctional Facility

A 70-year-old man was found unresponsive in his cell by staff at the King County Correctional Facility in Seattle on the morning of Friday, Nov. 28. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Story
A man in custody at the King County Correctional Facility passed away on the morning of Friday, Nov. 28.
The 70-year-old had been housed in a single-person cell on the 7th floor of the downtown Seattle jail. Staff immediately began lifesaving measures after finding him unresponsive at about 6:20 a.m. EMS technicians arrived and took over first aid but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced deceased at 6:52 a.m.
The man had been brought to KCCF by Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputies on Nov. 24 on an outstanding felony fugitive warrant out of Idaho. At the time of his passing, the man was awaiting transport to Idaho.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death. The individual’s identity, and other details, will be released on the Medical Examiner’s website.
As part of the review process for all jail-related deaths, the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention will work with Public Health – Seattle & King County to conduct an internal investigation.
Jails and prisons in Washington are required to review all unexpected in-custody fatalities and publish a report on the findings within 120 days of the death. (See RCW 70.48.510). These reports are published online by Washington's Department of Health and the Department of Adult & Juvenile Detention.
