Kent City Council votes to rescind sale of Pine Tree Park to developer

Summary

The Kent City Council has voted to rescind the sale of Pine Tree Park to Kirkland-based developer Oakpointe. The decision was reached after months of dialogue between concerned Kent residents and the Kent City Council.

Story

At their most recent council meeting, the Kent City Council voted in a 5-2 decision to rescind the sale of Pine Tree Park to the Kirkland-based developer Oakpointe. This decision was reached after months of dialogue between concerned Kent residents and the Kent City Council concerning the propriety of the sale.

“I want to commend the citizens of Kent for bringing this issue to my attention and for getting organized,” said King County Councilmember Peter von Reichbauer. “I further want to thank the Kent City Council for acting on the concerns of their constituents by rescinding the sale of the park. This issue serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency at all levels of government.”

The park lies on the southern edge of Kent near Pine Tree Elementary, on the northern edge of Councilmember von Reichbauer’s district.
