King County Council approves major $526,309 grant for Enumclaw Aquatic Center improvements

September 6, 2023

The King County Council on Tuesday approved King County Parks Levy Grants, including a $526,309 grant for the Enumclaw Aquatic Center.

“The Enumclaw Aquatic Center is a treasured resource not only in Enumclaw, but across the entire plateau,” said King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn. “I’m pleased that this critical roof replacement will preserve the longevity of the pool as a place for family fun, exercise, and friendly competition in our community.”

The Aquatic Facilities grant was awarded to the City of Enumclaw to fund a roof replacement at the Aquatic Center, which has reached the end of its useful life. In addition to the replacement, the grant will fund needed upgrades to HVAC ducting that is located on the roof.

The City of Enumclaw and all aquatic patrons are grateful to Councilmember Reagan Dunn and the King County Council for the grant,” said Enumclaw Mayor Jan Molinaro. “Continuing to make improvements to the Aquatic Center not only extends its years of life and use for the community, but will provide the continued opportunity in offering programs for young children learning to swim, and to those who need the pool for water exercises.”

These competitive grant programs are part of the 2020-2025 Parks Levy and seek to assist public aquatic facilities through capital funding at any stage from feasibility studies through renovation and repair, as well as with open space acquisition, active recreation, passive recreation, and local trails.

On August 6, 2019, King, County voters approved a measure to renew the property tax levy supporting parks, trails, and open space in King County. The measure replaced the levy that expired at the end of 2019 and will generate an estimated $810 million over six years, costing approximately $7.60 per month for the owner of a home with an assessed property value of $500,000.
