Zahilay applauds support for Crisis Care Centers levy in early returns

King County Councilmember Girmay Zahilay released a statement Tuesday night after early returns showed the Crisis Care Centers levy passing with 54% of the vote.

King County Councilmember Girmay Zahilay released the following statement Tuesday night after early returns showed the Crisis Care Centers levy passing with 54% of the vote:

“This is a huge victory for King County. Our communities are in crisis and we have few options for mental health and addiction recovery services. The Crisis Care Centers levy will give us a chance to build out our recovery infrastructure so we can give our neighbors more places to go for care and healing. Now it’s time to develop a detailed implementation plan to ensure these centers and services are delivered in the most effective ways possible.”

The levy would raise $1.25 billion through a property tax levy spread over nine years, and fund creation of five regional crisis care centers, the preservation and restoration of residential treatment beds, growth of the behavioral health workforce pipeline, and provide immediate services while centers are being constructed. In 2024, the levy will cost the owner of a median-valued home about $121.
