PrEP (Pre-exposure prophylaxis) is a medication (pills or shots) that reduces your chances of getting HIV if you are HIV-negative.
PrEP is not a vaccine, treatment, or cure for HIV.
PrEP neither prevents nor treats other STIs. Condoms and safer sex practices can be paired with PrEP to prevent other STIs.

Paying for PrEP
PrEP without insurance can cost up to $14,000 a year, however, very few people end up paying that amount. Medicaid and other types of health insurance covers PrEP. Drug companies also provide discounts to those who qualify. Talk to your doctor about options for financial assistance or visit the Washington State PrEP Drug Assistance Program.
