Parks Rules and Safety
Help us keep parks and trails welcoming, safe, clean, and well-maintained. Please see some of our main rules and safety information below. All information is available in Title 7 of the King County Code.
Citations
Payments for citations can be made online through this webpage.
Citations will be final unless it is contested in writing within 24 days of issuance. To contest this violation, you must email parksinfo@kingcounty.gov or call (206) 477-4527.
If not contested, you must pay your fine within 30 days. Failure to do so may result in additional monetary penalties and referral to a collection agency.

Rules
- No motor vehicles
- Speed limit is 15 MPH or less when conditions require otherwise on regional and backcountry trails
- Pass on left; use bell, voice, or other audible warning
- Yield to traffic where signage indicates
- Use lights or reflectors at dawn or dusk
- Trails are closed 30 minutes after sunset and open 30 minutes before sunrise
- Respect others; share the trail
We love pups in parks! But not all people are "dog people" and not all dogs are "dog dogs." To help keep you, your dog, other pets, the community, and wildlife safe, please follow these rules.
- All dogs and other pet animals must be kept on a leash no greater than 8 feet long and under control at all times.
- Dogs are only allowed off-leash at the dog area in Marymoor Park.
- Obey scoop laws - prevent the spread of disease and keep parks and trails clean by picking up after your dog/pet and disposing in a garbage can.
- Please follow signs for places where dogs/pets are not permitted (swimming areas, athletic fields, etc.)
Class 1 and 2 e-bikes are legally allowed on King County’s regional trails and must abide by the 15 MPH speed limit. Motor vehicles and Class 3 e-bikes are not permitted on trails.
Hunting is not allowed on any King County parks or trails, with the exception of an annual deer hunt at Island Center Forest on Vashon Island. Permits are required. More information available on the Island Center Forest webpage.
King County Parks does not allow metal detecting on any of our properties
Removing or moving vegetation, wildlife, or any county property, material or equipment is not allowed on King County Parks properties.
