Statement condemning hate speech used at Council committee meeting

"At the King County Council’s Law, Justice, Health and Human Services Committee today, a group of virtual participants using fake antisemitic names made a series of racist and antisemitic public comments.

"While the King County Council supports the public’s First Amendment rights, it does not tolerate hate and forcefully condemns these people’s cowardly actions. The disgusting comments made during this morning’s meeting represent not only an attack on King County government but the people of King County.

"Those who attempt to abuse the King County Council’s public forum in the future—virtually or in person—should be on notice that hateful speech or behavior will be swiftly condemned.”
