Judge Rhonda Laumann

Prior to being elected to the King County District Court (KCDC) bench in 2018, Judge Laumann served for six years as a pro tem judge in various district and municipal courts in King, Kitsap and Pierce counties. At KCDC, this included pro tem judge work at the Maleng Regional Justice Center (MRJC), Auburn, Seattle, Redmond, Burien and Issaquah courthouse locations. She currently is assigned to the Burien Courthouse in the mainstream civil department.

Judge Laumann has a broad range of legal experience in criminal and civil law, and also as an arbitrator and mediator. As the owner of The Laumann Firm, PLLC, she provided mediation services focused on dispute resolution in all forms, focusing on providing win-win solutions. Her legal career also includes working as a deputy prosecuting attorney for Kitsap County and as an insurance staff trial attorney.
As a pro tem judge, Judge Laumann presided over all aspects of criminal trials, including expedited felony arraignments, pretrial, motions, and trial, as well as jail calendars with felony first and second appearances. Her civil experience includes jury trials, motions, small claims, anti-harassment/protection orders (temporary and full hearings), traffic infractions and photo enforcement calendars.

Her teaching experience includes being the co-director of the Seattle Deposition Skills program for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy and the Team Leader for the Gulf Coast Program in New Orleans. She has been an adjunct professor for trial advocacy at the University of Washington School of Law, where she taught law students the fundamentals of trial, including case theory, jury selection, direct and cross examination, exhibit use, and opening and closing statements.  Judge Laumann frequently volunteers as a judge in mock trial competitions.

Judge Laumann earned her J.D. at the University of Puget Sound School of Law (now the Seattle University School of Law). In the courtroom, she is committed to the principles of integrity, compassion, flexibility and open-mindedness.
