Grants and procurements: Performance, Strategy, and Budget
The grants team has awarded more than $120 million to community organizations and individuals since 2021. The awards are part of our commitment to supporting our community through funding different programs, services, and projects. Here are of some of our recently closed grants:
South King County Shelter Project - CLOSED
The $5 million grant helped cities in south King County develop new homeless shelters. The funding also helped with construction costs.
South King County $1M Asylum-Seeker Support - CLOSED
This funding served unsheltered asylum-seeking families or individuals residing in or near Tukwila, by, among other things, providing temporary housing, food, support, and legal services. Learn more.
Childcare expansion - CLOSED
Up to 300 new childcare slots are available in King County as a result of funding for Imagine U. Funding also allowed 25 participants to complete the Imagine U training program to become licensed family childcare providers. Grant funds also supported 41 providers with emergency preparedness training and tools to help them run a profitable, efficient business.
Waterfront Shuttle - CLOSED
The free Waterfront Shuttle connected the Seattle waterfront, the Space Needle, Pioneer Square, and King Street Station. More than 14,000 riders used the shuttle between July and October of 2023.
Racism is a Public Health Crisis Resiliency Fund - CLOSED
The Gathering Collaborative fund provided $25 million to organizations that address racism as a public health crisis. Recipients included more than 130 small businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations.
Behavioral Health Apprenticeship Program - CLOSED
Funding of $4 million helped increase trained, skilled, and diverse professionals in the behavioral health workforce. The project had 53 active participants across three tracks—substance use disorder professionals, peer counselors, and behavioral health technicians. Watch the video to learn more.

Arts, culture and tourism
Festivals and events grant program
The program provided $1.9 million to support the re-opening of festivals and events in the County.

Arts and culture fund
The $19.5 million fund provided relief to cultural organizations and businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
4Culture Recovery Fund:
The 4Culture Recovery Fund supported cultural organizations that lost revenue during the pandemic.
Community Services
SoDo Food Hub Project:
This grant helped establish a multipurpose food processing and distribution facility. It serves as a co-packing space to support local food security infrastructure.
Digital Equity Grants:
The County awarded $2 million in digital equity grants to groups, agencies, and organizations serving communities impacted by COVID-19.

Awarded grants supported strategic communications, the Coalition Against Hate and Bias, and language access.
Economic Recovery
Behavioral Health Apprenticeship Pathways:
The SEIU Healthcare 1199 NW Multi-Employer Training Fund administers the $4 million award. The funding helped implement the Behavioral Health Apprenticeship program.
Equitable Economic Recovery:
The Racism as a Public Health Crisis resiliency fund provided $25 million to more than 120 small businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations whose work is essential to addressing Racism as a Public Health Crisis.
