Executive mourns passing of LGBTQ activist George Zander
Summary
King County Executive Dow Constantine mourned the loss of LBGTQ activist George Zander.
Story
"I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of George Zander today. While George is well known for his LGBTQ activist work over the past several years with Equality California, I knew and worked with him right here in Seattle, where he got his start as a Democratic Party leader, including four years as King County Chair, and an early board member of the Dorian Group.
"The cause of George’s death has not been announced, but he was hospitalized and underwent surgery after being attacked in a likely hate crime in Palm Springs on Nov. 1. I am outraged that this cowardly act almost certainly contributed to the death of a man who has done so much good in this world.
"George was a civil rights leader, a champion for progressive values, and as fine a person as one could hope to meet. I offer my sincere condolences to his husband, Chris, his family and friends, and the many people whose lives he touched through his activism and his humanity."
