Executive Constantine on Boeing 777X assembly and need for transportation package
Summary
King County Executive Dow Constantine praised the Governor's call for a special session of the Legislature to begin Thursday, November 7
Story
"Congratulations to Governor Jay Inslee, Senator Patty Murray, the Machinists Union, and The Boeing Company for reaching this historic agreement to build the 777X airliner in our Puget Sound region.
"The 777X will help drive the future prosperity of King County. Many of the people who will work on the plane live here, and many of the 478 aerospace firms in King County will be part of the 777X supply chain.
"The Legislature now needs to act quickly on the incentives that are required as part of this agreement.
"This breakthrough with Boeing dramatically underscores the need to maintain a sustainable transportation system that can efficiently move parts and supplies for Boeing, and that can efficiently move aerospace workers to their jobs. There is a direct and critical link between our local transportation and our region's global competitiveness.
"For too long we have relied on band-aid solutions to patch our roads and stave off cuts to Metro bus service. The time is now, in conjunction with this Boeing agreement, to act on a statewide transportation package with local options for maintaining transit and roads.
"This is a great day for the state of Washington. Let's use this day to build a great future for King County and the state."
