Ebola outbreak caused by Sudan virus in Uganda
Actions requested
- Awareness: Uganda is experiencing an outbreak of Sudan virus disease (SVD), which is a type of Ebola disease cased by infection with the Sudan virus.
- There are no reported cases outside of Uganda and the risk of infection in the United States is low, but clinicians should be aware of potential imported cases.
- Currently, CDC is not implementing enhanced surveillance for SVD at U.S. ports of entry.
- Travel History: Obtain a detailed travel history for patients with suspected SVD, especially those that have been in affected areas of Uganda.
- Reporting: Immediately report suspected cases of SVD and other viral hemorrhagic fevers to Public Health at 206-296-4774.
