Cold-related illness data dashboards
Extremely cold weather can result in illness and death. Less cold weather events will happen in the future because temperatures are increasing due to climate change. However, monitoring cold-related illness is still important as people will continue to experience health impacts from these events.
Cold-related illness includes conditions such as frostbite and hypothermia. These happen when the body loses heat faster than it can produce it, which can be due to very cold temperatures, or contact with wind, rain, or cold water. Extreme cold disproportionately impacts certain people, including older adults, children, outdoor workers, and people who are unhoused.
