Heathfield Force Main Rehabilitation
The Heathfield Pump Station has two pressurized sewer pipes. These pipes help move sewage to South Treatment Plant in Renton via the Eastgate Trunk. Since August 2024, the older of the two pipes has been out of service. This project aims to rehabilitate the older pipe, built in 1983, and bring it back into service.
Project background
In August 2024, King County wastewater operators were doing regular maintenance at the Heathfield Pump Station. During that work, the older of the two pressurized pipes broke near the station.
King County quickly fixed 100 feet of the broken pipe. Since then, the pipe has remained out of service while King County further investigated it’s condition. The newer pipe, built in 2022, has been able to move sewage to the regional treatment plant to be cleaned and safely released into Puget Sound.
This project aims to rehabilitate the rest of the older sewer pipe so we can return it to service. Once operational, it will help carry higher levels of flows that come to the pump station during winter storms.
Project update
August 2025
King County finished our assessment of the pipe that broke in August 2024.
We found that the pipe needs additional repairs to about 100 feet of the pipe located near SE 35th PL. These repairs are important to finish before the rainy season starts.
King County is working to get permits and materials to repair about 100 feet pipe located near SE 35th PL.
We are working with the City of Bellevue to get the needed permits to start the repairs. We are also procuring materials so work can begin as soon as we are able.
Beginning the repairs depends on how quickly we get the permits and materials. We expect to know more in the next couple of weeks, and we will share updates with you.
We appreciate the patience of neighbors near the Heathfield Pump Station while we bring the pipe back into service.
