Don’t trash vapes: Safely get rid of them at our haz waste sites

Four different types of vape pens laid out on table.

Tossing those used nicotine vape pens and e-cigarettes in the trash might be easy, but it’s not the safest move. These devices often contain batteries and other hazardous materials that can spark fires or leak toxins into the environment.

The safe and free solution to throwing away used nicotine vapes is visiting one of our three fixed hazardous waste collection sites: North Seattle, South Seattle, and Factoria.

Here’s what to know:

  • We accept nicotine-based vape pens, e-cigarettes, along with all-in-one devices (max 10 devices per visit).
  • We don’t accept cannabis or THC vape devices, liquids, or cartridges.

Whether you’re holding onto a couple used devices or have a stash building up in a drawer, we encourage you to bring them in when you're ready. And if you’ve got friends or family who vape, tell them where they can bring theirs. It’s a simple way to help keep harmful waste out of the landfill and our environment.

Find your nearest drop-off location and more info about what we accept.
