Not accepted at hazardous waste collection sites

Helium tanks are not accepted at household hazardous waste collection sites or recycling and disposal stations. Dispose of five gallon or smaller helium tanks in the garbage. Before disposing of any helium tank, use up or vent remaining gas by turning the valve all the way to the left. For larger tanks and commercial gas cylinders, refer to the information printed on the tank for instructions on recycling or exchanging tanks.
